Fandom List

Starting from 6/11/2011, this list is being completely revamped to reflect my current level of interest in fandoms as well as any ships. Based on [ profile] fishandcustard's lovely fandom list. As my relationships with fandoms are complicated, just because fandoms are in the same category doesn't mean they have the exact same status, but making things more exact would make this list more cumbersome.

This is considerably later than I normally do this, I don't really have an excuse tbh, but it's definitely that time again!

If you want a holiday card from yours truly, just leave your address in the comments! They're screened as usual. :)

And if you want to send ME a card for some reason, then let me know and I'll give you my new address!

Dear flist,

I would like you to meet Castiel, my new baby car:

It's a 1997 Toyota Camry LE with only 79,380 miles on it. It's in excellent condition and drives like a dream - seriously, the ride was so quiet and so smooth, it was even better than my dad's Lexus. There's more pictures and videos on the dealer website here if you're curious.

The only downside is that I'll be paying a little more than I was hoping to spend on a car - $6,500, not including taxes and fees. Tax alone bumps up the price to $7k, and I'm not sure yet how much the fees will be, but my dad assures me it won't be much.

I haven't officially bought it yet because I need to wait until my paycheck deposits on Wednesday to have enough money to cover it. But I do have a $500 deposit on it, so it is mine.

Honestly though, I'm fine with the price, because I am in love with this car, and thrilled that it's MINE. This baby is going to last me a long time so I definitely think it's worth it. Can't wait until I have it so I can show it off to everyone, and put my UC Santa Cruz Alumni license plate holder on it - I'll take pictures then too haha.

After all these months looking for cars, the nightmare with the Passat (that car ended up needing $3k worth of repair work done, which lol no) and the nightmare I had this week checking out a 2003 Nissan Altima (the car was mostly decent, but needed a little work done to it and the guys selling it were SUPER sketchy), I'm also just glad that it's finally OVER. Now I can focus on moving out!

Hello flist,

I am super tired right now but am in need for some input ASAP so I'll make this short and sweet (though I will try to post about my actual life later): I currently have this car on hold at a dealership.

It's a 2003 Volkswagen Passat Wagon with under 100,000 miles. Ignore the price on the page; we reached a deal with the dealer to buy it for $6k, fees and tax included, a significant price saving from the listed $7k sale price excluding fees and tax.

I admit that I never really saw myself driving a wagon but it's been really difficult to find a decent car under 100k miles in my price range and this seems like a decent deal. I ordered the Carfax report and it has been in an accident, but it doesn't seem to have been a major one because another person bought the car and drove it for years afterward. We're gonna get it checked out by a mechanic either way though.

So I'm basically just looking for any kind of opinions about this - do you think this is a good deal? Do you or anyone you know have any kind of experience with this car? I'm doing my own research but having the input of my friends will make a HUGE difference, so I'd appreciate it if you could take a moment to think it over for me. Thank you!!

Hello again, flist! I know it's weird to see me post again so soon lol, but I've just had an interesting discussion with [ profile] arrowwhiskers, and it's made me curious on something that I had just assumed as fact for the entirety of my fandom life:

What does "wank" (and also, "flaming/flamewars") specifically mean to you? Can you use it to describe drama and arguments that occur offline, or is it an online-only phenomenon?

More specifically, we're wondering whether characters in a fic can "wank" (and no, I'm not talking about masturbation... perverts :P), and if the tons of bullshit found in rl politics/political campaigns and such could also qualify as "wank".

To explain my own thoughts on the matter, I'm just going to copy and paste the conversation we had:

So yesterday was a momentous day for me: I went back to the Grove in Los Angeles, but this time, because Darren Criss was doing a CD signing there.

It was a looong day )

Americans on my flist, tomorrow is the midterm election. You know what that means?

I know that midterm elections aren't as exciting as presidential elections, but trust me, your vote is VITAL. Why? Because Congress is just as important as the presidency. Not to mention that there are other important races and initiatives/propositions to vote on!

I can't tell you how to vote, that's not my place, I just hope you guys go out and DO IT!

As I mentioned in my last post, I started making some more icons again. Now I think I have a decent enough batch to share. I'm not completely happy with all of them but iconing gets really exhausting after awhile, I am so sick of Photoshop right now that I can't stand the thought of trying to make any more LOL.

This batch is a little more eclectic, meaning that the quality levels may vary, just to warn you in advance. Also, I tried something a little new in this batch. You'll see. Heh.

I haven't done a meme like this in awhile so, why not? From all around my flist:

Describe what sort of person I am, from your perspective, my strengths or flaws, overall personality, etc. Be honest. Alternatively, tell me how you feel about me, etc. If you have an issue or a question that you want my opinion on but don't want to sign your name to, that's fine. All comments are screened, anon is on and ip logging is off.

I was bored off my ass (already - this is gonna be a looooooooong break...) and so decided to make some more icons! Though this time I'm looking for a little more critique/response, which is why I've included a poll. I want to know which icons you guys like here so I know what works best, and I also wanna know if I'm like... good. To the point where people would actually use my icons? lol. So be honest about that too. Don't worry about hurting my feelings, I'm not ~invested in icon making. It's just fun. lol

I discovered an aspect of Photoshop that I was clueless about before, and the discovery inspired me to experiment - quite a bit. So I've created 21 icons. (More than that, actually, but these are the ones I'm gonna share for now lol). Since the set is completely random I'm not going to crosspost them anywhere lol. I'm posting them mainly to get feedback - to see if I'm any good or not. But if you actually want to USE them, then go ahead with credit, you know the drill lol.

CALLING ALL BILINGUALS! I know there's a few of you on my flist, I think... lol

I have an essay due this Wednesday for my Language, Society and Culture class, and one of the prompts I can write about requires asking a bilingual person a few questions. Of course, there are other prompts I could use, but I'd really like to do this one preferably, so if you could do this for me I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Though, if you do, I'll need your real name - or at least a pseudonym that sounds real, just so I can refer to what you say in the essay itself. If you're not comfortable with that, then don't volunteer.

Here are the questions:

1. What circumstances led you to becoming bilingual?

2. At what ages or in what contexts were the different languages acquired?

3. Which of the languages do you still use today?

4. In what contexts do you use each language? (For example - use 1 at home, use 1 at school)

5. Have there been changes in your ability or use of either of the languages over time? What caused those changes?

6. How do you feel about your bilingualism - are you glad to be bilingual, is it a burden to you, or is it simply a fact of life?

7. My name is:

Comments are screened for privacy. Thank you SO MUCH if you decide to do this for me, I'll really owe you!

I'm thinking about changing my LJ name, cause it looks kinda ugly and no one knows how to even pronounce it, anyway. But I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do. I have 3 names in mind that I'm currently toying with:

aspirated: this is a phonology term, and I am a phonology nerd. Not only that, but I like the way it sounds as a username. This might be my favorite one right now, idk.

ilusionada: this is a Spanish word that I really like - and it's actually kinda misleading, cause it's not about illusions; it means "hopeful, excited". That false friend aspect of it is why I find the word so charming. But I'm worried that it'd have to same "how the fuck would you say that?" property as my current one.

brillando: this is my twitter name, a Spanish word meaning "shining". It's cute because it has a pun on my name, Bri. But again, since it's Spanish I wonder - is it pronounceable?

...It's sad that all the things I can think of are either Spanish or language related (I also considered ejective and palatal, more phonology terms - if you like the sound of those you can vote for them in the comments too). I can't even imagine what other kinds of words I WOULD use. I am such a nerd, lol.

Since I'm not quite sure yet, I'll let you guys pitch in with your opinion :)

[Poll #1461849]

Thanks for voting, if you did! I'll figure something out in a few days, probably. Maybe. LOL

we are the champions ♥

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen have had a lot of incredibly adorable moments, and this post is here to celebrate all these moments... in gif form. So yes, it's basically a Kradam gif picspam!

Even if you're not into Idol, I still think you should check this post out because the cuteness is a wonder to behold, omg. There is no way to be sad when you're watching their love. ♥

Hello Dreamwidth. I kept seeing you on my flist but never felt the urge to join myself, until [personal profile] arrch offered me a code. Thanks Arrch!

Now, what to do with this...? Arrch suggested using it to back up my LJ, but I don't really see the purpose of that. Plus, that's boring. Haha.

Maybe I should use it as a log of the little things that make me happy each day. I could probably use something like that. I could also use it as a more private journal - I know I can make private entries on LJ, but here, very little of you will even read my non-private posts, especially as the DW fever dies down. I also associate LJ too much with the desire for feedback; that won't be the case here. Maybe I could use a private outlet, too.

More than likely, I'll never look at this account again. But we'll see. haha
