fanfiction recommendations

Last night, I read a fic that I absolutely fell in love with, and I wanted to rec it to people. So, I decided to compose a rec list - my favorite (or almost favorite) fic in my more recent fandoms. I make no guarantees that these fic will always be my favorites, but for now, they are. I hope you enjoy! ♥

As a warning, I'm not very good at explaining my feelings for each fic beyond "it's awesome!" so don't expect much on that department. xD

Daily Show RPS

E Pluribus Unum by [livejournal.com profile] cobrasnaps and [livejournal.com profile] zomboid [Jon/Stephen, Stephen/Steven, R, WIP]
Fall 2016. The reformed Patriot Act pressures all forms of the media to comply with the new policies. Stephen dares to defy the FCC and censors, ready to face the consequences. He finds salvation in an anonymous e-mail, signed with the nickname of a man he believed died years ago.

This is easily my favorite RPS fic - hell, it's my favorite fanfic of ANY fandom, ever! It's extremely well-written. Everything about it is amazing - the plot, the characterization, the style. Even if you're unfamiliar with this fandom, I really do recommend it to you. It's that good.

Death Note

Mind Games by wild-filly [Raito/L, PG-13, complete]
Yagami Raito had considered many potentialities arising from owning the Death Note. One of those potentialities he had not considered however, was becoming handcuffed to a certain sugar reliant insomniac.

Raito/L is a pretty unlikely pairing, honestly, but the characterization in this story is superb. Their developing relationship is really fun to read; it's just a good story all around. :)

Fullmetal Alchemist

Departure by Larania Drake [Roy/Ed, R, WIP]
The Ishbal Rebellion left many scars, on both the soldiers and the people left behind. Ed sees a scar he never believed existed in the heart of Roy Mustang.

Angst, a really interesting plot, and Roy realistically becoming a cat man - what more do you want? xD It's a really good fic, all well-written.

Heroes

Split by [livejournal.com profile] aheartfulofyou [Sylar/Mohinder, R, complete]
For the Niki Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] mylar_fic, based around the idea that Sylar kills Niki/Jessica and he himself splits into his two selves, Gabriel and Sylar.

This is the fic that I fell in love with last night. It is so, so good, yet so, so painful. Hell, it made me cry. But in a good way. I mean, Sylar/Mohinder isn't exactly a fluffy couple. xD This fic actually does approach fluffy, though. When it's not being utterly heartbreaking. ;_;

House, M.D.

Colorblind by [livejournal.com profile] anamatics [House/Chase, R, WIP]
Chase dares the rain to walk home, because he’s having car troubles and has missed the bus (so he thinks).

This series is awesome. Their relationship is unusually gentle, but she actually makes it WORK. All the characterizations are top-notch - she doesn't ignore the other characters in the series, either. There's a lot of drama and angst, too. Basically, it's everything I ever wanted in a House fic~

Kingdom Hearts

Change My Stripes by Sephiroth's Stalker [Riku/Sora, Squall/Sora, R, WIP]
It's hard enough being a senior in high school. It's even harder when your best friend is in love with you, and you're not attracted to other guys. But then, why can't you stop staring at your new English teacher?

Okay, honestly, choosing the fic for Kingdom Hearts was the hardest. And this fic isn't the best KH fic out there. But it's one of my favorites, because of the Squall/Sora relationship. It's really cute, and... well, it's teacher/student, I can't resist it. xD Because of my uncertainty, though, I'm reccing another fic:

Heads or Tails by [livejournal.com profile] setentia [Riku/Sora, R, complete]
“I’ve been having these weird dreams lately... like is any of this for real or not?” (Sora, KH1)

This is a really good take on what happens post-KH2. It's hilarious, for one thing, but I also love how Roxas still affects them. And their relationship is just very fun to read, especially since Riku gets so jealous. It's just a really fun fic!

Kyou Kara Maou

In Service of a Vision by [livejournal.com profile] lenainverse [Cheri/Gisela, PG-13, complete]

I adore this fic. It's very well-written, and the theme is really strong; it really affects me everytime I read it. The angst makes sense and I love how Cheri and Gisela come together. It's just beautiful.

Ouran Koukou Host Club

Some Princes Become Kings by [livejournal.com profile] kagayachou [Kyouya/Tamaki, G, complete]
A hundred reasons between them, each worth far more than a hundred words.

I haven't read a lot of Ouran fic, but I think this one is very good. For a fic that is composed of drabbles, the character development is really good. I love how subtlely their relationship develops too. It's a little angsty, but it's sweet too. It's just a nice, understated fic.

The OC

Telegraph Avenue by [livejournal.com profile] hackthis [Ryan/Seth, Seth/OC, NC-17, complete]
There are three A's in college: academics, alcohol and angst.

This is a Ryan/Seth classic, and with good reason. It has one of the best original characters in a fic I've read, and the characterization and the development is really good.

Pokémon

The Journey by NeoAlphaGenesis [Ash/Gary, PG-13, WIP]
Team Rocket succeeds in stealing Pikachu. During an effort to save his best friend, Ash is seriously wounded and an old friend comes to his rescue. Together, they will embark on a remarkable journey that will forever change them.

Most of the Pokémon fandom sucks, obviously, but even if it didn't this would shine. It's well-written, has an interesting plot and the relationship between the boys is really realistic, not perfect by any means, and their conflicts against the plot makes for a great read.

Smallville

Predestiny by [livejournal.com profile] suzvoy [Clark/Lex, R, complete]

There are a lot of good fics in this fandom, and I chose this one because the concept is so novel and interesting, yet it's probably one of the saddest fics I have ever read. Even so - because of that - I love it; it's a wonderful fic.

Tales of the Abyss

Simple Excuse for a Complex Crime by [livejournal.com profile] spinnyroses [Guy/Luke, PG-13, complete]

I love this fic because it shows the darker side of Guy, which is very interesting. It's so easy to forget that, and this fic explores it very well. Plus, it's borderline squick for me, which makes it a fun read. *laughs*

Well, that's it. That took ages. xD And... damn, pretty much all of them are all angsty and plotty. I can't deny that those are my favorite kinds of fic now. *g*

hi. i read E Pluribus Unum some time ago[last year?]... anyway, it was awesome, but i haven't checked on it for some time now. I can't find it anywhere, so i googled it and came across your journal. the link you gave leads to an error, it says there's "no such entry." Is the story down? or is it just me? I really want to read it again... hope you can help me out. Thanks :D
