How can I have a 3 hour class consisting of my teacher just talking to us the whole time, and yet never get bored? I have to say, even though I hate her assignments, she's such a great lecturer. ♥ Her information and insight into US history is just fascinating.
One of the topics we ended up talking about was how the USD is starting to suck ass. (She goes off on tangents sometimes, it's fun). But it was the first time I began to understand why it's starting to suck, which is good.
But it made me consider something. If I were to just visit and/or study in Europe in the future the Euro would probably rape me up the wazoo (since, oh yeah, the USD will get even worse).
So, I've been thinking... maybe I should do my study abroad in a non-European country (Singapore and Chile being two good candidates) and then teach English in Europe... because if I work there, then I'd be paid in Euros. And that'd be good for me. And then I can look at all my American friends and family and laugh. xD No, I'm not that mean. Well. Maybe a little. ;)

I'm doing my student teaching right now (Music ed) in Bangkok, Thailand, and I love it. Well, I love Thailand, not necessarily the school I'm at, but that's another story.
I would very much recommend coming to Asia, if you're looking to not go to Europe. I had a friend come to Japan, and she loved it. Thailand is great to come to, but there's not really a University to do an exchange with . . Malaysia is great, I'm not sure about China.
Singapore is a really really neat country- I got to go there last month. If you're looking for a different cultural experience, however, Singapore is not the place to go. It's incredibly westernized, English is one of the official languages and it's the language they use in the schools. It was almost like being back in the US, compared to Bangkok. It was a great vacation for me, but I'm not sure how much of a different experience it would be for you.
(The other thing about Asian countries . . . the people here are tiny. The women are tiny. I'm a size 12 in the US and I have issues finding clothes here sometimes . . . and when I do, I'm a double XL, at least.)
But it's very cheap to live here if you're not an extravagant spender, and it's been a lovely experience. And there's your rambling advice, unsolicited, from a passer-by. :D

Considering this new USD thing going on... yeah, maybe I might like to stay after in Europe and find some other job there. Too bad I don't have a college degree though; a teaching degree is generally required for full time English instruction overseas, as far as I've seen.

But yeah, I still commend you on your initiative! :D
