After stumbling upon [livejournal.com profile] remix_redux and bemoaning the fact that I completely missed it and I've no idea when it's restarting (though I need more time to build up my fic list), I got an idea for a different fic challenge, that's similar to that one's premise.

In that comm, you rewrite someone else's fic. So the basic plot stays in tact. But what if, instead, you chose someone's fic and wrote a prequel or sequel to it?

I think that'd be pretty fun. :) And even though I don't really have the time, I feel like being a moderator again. What do you guys think of the idea? Think it'd be successful?

Can you do it for published fiction? (must resist urge to rewrite X, must resist urge to rewrite X...)

Hmm, that strikes me as a different kind of challenge - I wouldn't incorporate both in one community. Though that idea is rather compelling, too. In fact, that's even more interesting to me. xD

There could be 3 ways to approach a fandom: write a prequel, sequel, or rewrite it. Many fandoms have a really long source material, though, so there'd be the option to just focus on a certain section of the canon.

If I did it that way, though, then it'd be an open-ended thing, and not a recurring challenge with a deadline, which was the original idea. xD And there's a lot of other little things I'd have to think about. Assuming if this idea is the better concept, and the more likely to be popular (hey, I don't want a dead challenge comm xD).
